Every year, I look forward to the Spa Hive Spa Event in New England. This year, I held the event at Cliff House Maine in Ogunquit. It had the perfect backdrop to provide my Spa Hive guests the sweet, serene landscape every spa covets.
After the hustle and bustle of stuffing swag bags on Sunday night, I had the pleasure of spending some quality time with my team, my board and Spa Hive vendors and sponsors. We all shared a delicious meal at Cape Neddick Lobster Pound. The dinner was delicious, as usual, and we got to know each other a little better before we networked at the Spa Hive Mastermind Spa Event the next day.
Registration began a little before 8:30. Our registrants were eager to get in to our spa hive boutique pop-up where our vendors and sponsors set up the night before. Before too long, the whole boutique was swirling with conversation and people were excited to try new products.
At one end of the room, Bob Baxter was talking to people about his magnetic bracelets and necklaces – showing them how much different their strength was with the accessories vs. without them. Pili Ani was set up front and center as people entered the boutique. Their sleek designs were nothing short of breath taking. Their story is one that definitely will leave people remembering their brand. Beeline Skincare had a beautiful (and full) 12 ft. table full of samples just waiting for people to try them and learn more about their products.
After the boutique pop-up was over for the morning session, it was time to start. Participants took their seats at round-tables as we introduced the speakers for our digital marketing panel. Pens were flying as one suggestion after another was thrown out. We discussed different software and tools that can be used to promote your spa. The panelists talked about the importance of social storytelling and figuring out what your spa’s story is. Our Spa Hive participants actively raised one question after another. It was a hot topic that is constantly changing.
Once our panel was finished, we took to one of the most important parts of this event: The Mastermind. This is when we put tables of people together that can help each other brainstorm answers to the issues they’re facing in their businesses. We worked our way around the table to address everyone’s individual obstacles and helped them come up with solutions to try when they got back to their offices.
After lunch (which included some super yummy crab cakes), the Spa Hive Boutique pop-up was back to bustling. Spa Hive participants were given a little extra incentive to visit each of the booths in our pop-up area. Then we were back to business with a full belly.
Up next, our retail panel talked about ways to entice spa staff to get retail sales up. We addressed how to sell without coming off as a pushy sales person. Our three panelists came up with creative ways to boost retail. They delved back into social media briefly and also came up with in depth and creative ways to promote product in the spa.
Our last round-table Mastermind began. We switched up the tables so we were able to learn from other industry thought leaders and spa professionals. As we worked our way around the tables, we talked about scheduling issues, retail obstacles and more. Light bulbs were going off left and right. Notes were frantically being written so spa directors, owners, managers and others in the industry could implement these ideas once they got back to work.
Once everything wrapped up, we encouraged our Spa Hive guests to make one last stop by the boutique pop-up. As a sweet send-off, each of our guests were offered a whoopie pie and they each were emailed a list of every participant, vendor and sponsor at the event.
I love fostering lasting professional relationships in this space. Our participants at Spa Hive Masterminds are incredible and I’m so grateful for the positive feedback we received from our latest spa event. For those of you interested in attending the Spa Hive Mastermind in December, it will be held in Virginia. Registration with early bird pricing is coming soon, so keep your eyes peeled!
Finally, thank you to everyone that made this event a success. My board members, my team – and especially the Spa Hive sponsors and vendors made this event really come together. I can’t wait to make it happen again in December!
