Valentine’s Day is creeping closer every day. Is your spa’s retail space ready for the coming holiday? According to Bloomberg, people spend an average of $143 on their sweethearts for Valentine’s Day. That should get the wheels turning as to how you can position your retail products to sell for February 14th! If you haven’t started marketing for Valentine’s Day yet, the time is now!
What to Promote
I’m sure you’ve got multiple retail lines in your spa. Choose 2 or 3 of your top performing brands and package them together – or – highlight and feature a new brand you’re carrying. I reached out to some of the brands that work with SpaHive to see how they were training spas to promote their brands and here’s what they had to say:
We advise our clients to create packages/gift sets for Valentine’s Day that are specifically for men. Currently our clients are offering a free travel case to go along with the purchase of the men’s Guinot products, making it the ideal gift for Valentine’s Day.
Men don’t often think of taking care of their skin so why not facilitate that by getting them started on a simple skin care regimen that will keep them looking younger! The Guinot Tres Homme line is made exclusively for men. It is effective and simple to use.
At Shankara, we are writing blogs and placing focus on products geared toward women and love. These products will ship for free!
We are featuring the Shankara Essence which contains rare sacred oils such as pink and white lotus, rose alba, rose absolute, jasmine and frankincense to name a few…
This essence will evoke a feeling of love, tranquility and a heart centered feeling…
It’s a thoughtful gift for you or for that special someone in your life..
**Personal Note: I adore and covet the Shankara Essence! A personal fave! It is seduction in a bottle.
Moving Your Retail
You can use many of the strategies that I pointed out in my Holiday Spa Marketing Strategy to actually package things appropriately and market them well. Remember to make things as easy as possible for your potential buyers. That might look like 3 different sized (and priced) gift baskets. It might be a skin care set tied with the perfect red ribbon and placed in a red or pink bag. Don’t foget to train your front desk if you’re doing value-add options for the holiday. For Guinot (mentioned above), they’re highlighting their men’s skincare line. Why not do a value add and upsell a men’s facial or a gift card that they can redeem for a facial or massage?
Setting Services Up for Success
Remember, it’s the season of L.O.V.E. Think like a couple and hopefully you’ll sell plenty of couples services! Massage isn’t the only service that can be sold to couples. Couples facials, couples pedicures or mainucures. Heck, combine all of the above and create a “Day of Romance Package” that includes a free retail takeaway!
Decorate! It’s not always top-of-mind for your spa clients to walk in and think about purchasing retail. We all need a little reminder every now and then. Create a special Valentine’s Section and surround it with hearts. Place Cupid in between retail brands for a little separation. Again, train your front desk associates to ask the right questions. It can all be done conversationally! “So, do you have any big plans for Valentine’s Day?” That question alone opens up doors to sell more products and services.
In the end, be creative. What would catch your eye? What would bring you in to purchase a gift card? Do that! Until next time, sending you each lots of love!
