Funny thing, I generally do some of my deepest soul searching in an airplane. I’m not sure if it’s subconscious fear or my pre-flight reiki ritual that brings on this profound contemplation. As I sit in row 1A, my favorite seat on domestic flights, on my way to the Steel City, I find this last trip of 2015 bittersweet. You see, I love my clients. That’s the upside and downside of doing business with me! I select partners carefully because it becomes a long-term personal relationship.
My 2015 was really everything I had hoped it to be, minus losing 15 pounds….
JMPankey Partners had a rewarding year. We accomplished all of our objectives, changing and tweaking along the way. It’s cool the way that a vision can evolve. I’m not saying that we successfully accomplished every goal, but we gave it our all and never looked back with regret.
We recognized that we needed help. No one ever said growth is easy. Growth comes at a price, personally and professionally. We were at that pivotal point: go big or go home, I always say! Recognizing that we needed help, we brought on three industry leading spa professionals to help with sales, marketing and client management. My best and scariest move of 2015.
We also brought in a Digital and PR/Marketing Specialist to evaluate our strategies. Even consultants need consultants. How else would we be able to bring you the very best business building advice!
We launched the Spa Concierge Program™ and a much more intensive marketing blitz. You know how the cobbler doesn’t have shoes? Well, I don’t always heed my own advice. That’s why I surround myself with a brilliant and loyal team that makes sure I don’t neglect myself and my own business goals. I’m eternally grateful for this. I have the best team. You know the team that disagrees with you and tells you that your making a mistake? That’s my team! They’re the best at what they do and push me to be the best at what I do.
I was fortunate to visit some really great spas and places this year. I would break it down to stepping on 31 one way flights, traveling approximately 17,701 miles between planes, trains, busses and automobiles. I walked through the doors of countless spas and re-walked over the threshold of about five great client spas roughly 72 times. Did I say I love my clients?!
We all keep learning and that is part of the journey…part of the fun. As a consultant, my team and I can give you the very best advice to build a profitable new business, jump start an existing business, manage teams, and preserve your sense of self. But, just like you, we keep learning and evolving. We need the same things you do…certainty and uncertainty, to be significant, love, connections, growth, and contribution/sense of service.
My takeaway of 2015, worth sharing with you, is this:
If you focus on fulfilling your own needs, not in a selfish way but in a way that is nurturing and productive, you will in turn be able to systematically set goals and achieve them! Roadblocks may just be detours so that you can refocus.
The best advice I received in 2015:
A flight attendant said “If there is a sudden change in cabin pressure, three oxygen masks will drop down, secure your own mask first before assisting others.” I realized that this is the same in life. Take care of yourself first so you will better prepared to take care of others.
My big, crazy audacious goal for 2016:
Lose those 15 pounds, of course, and introduce the first ever Spa Mastermind conference. Stay tuned.
