I had the pleasure of being inspired by Jewel at ISPA 2014. I have to be honest, I didn’t expect such a dynamic person to be before us on the stage. Truth be told, Jewel’s musical storytelling turned out to be a highlight of the conference. Here’s why….
As I waited in my seat for Jewel to take the stage, I was not sure what to expect. I was just guessing she would tell some stories and sing some of her popular songs. Well once the show started, I realized that Jewel is just that….a jewel! I loved her from the moment she came on stage. She was so sweet, funny and endearing. She was humble and thankful of her success. These are all things in my mind that make someone truly memorable.
Who knew she had lived in a car, under a shrub and on the lamb from reality? Who knew her family is the inspiration of Alaska: The Last Frontier? I mean, REALLY? She was a frontier girl that was blessed with the love of her family and an amazing voice.
What Jewel reminded me is that despair and sadness can be turned into hope. They are the perfect fuel for that kind of transformation! You need to stay true to yourself, find and focus on your passions in life and believe that dreams do come true.
But let’s not be naive. It’s not enough to believe….you must fight for what’s right and what you believe in as well as take action in order to make things happen. I encourage anyone reading this to strive to be your very best, inspire those around you, do good things, follow your dreams and live your life with passion. It’s the most fulfilling way to live, so why not give it a try? Bonus! We have a New Year approaching, the perfect opportunity to take inventory, make plans and start over.
Once again, the ISPA conference offered so much more than I expected. (Eric Wahl graffiti artist pictured below!) It is really a gem of an event and I encourage you to make plans to attend next year – TODAY. 🙂 The contacts you make, the opportunities to share with fellow spa industry folks, educational takeaways and inspiration make it worth every penny and then some When we take time away from our daily tasks, we find a renewed perspective and infusion of energy, it’s priceless.
Often, a few days away is all it takes to give you a fresh outlook on seemingly insurmountable problems in your spa or in your personal life. It is a gift we don’t often give to ourselves, yet it benefits so many others as well. It’s literally almost selfless to take care of yourself so that you can then take care of those around you. Try it!
