As a spa director and consultant for some of the most well known leisure brands over the past 25 year, I have always LOVED a good facial treatment mask. However, no matter how beneficial they are to our skincare regimen, they have always been a hard sell in the spa as aftercare. But all good products and services have their day in the limelight and a quality facial mask is no exception. We can probably thank the masking Celebrity Selfie Trend and the Korean Sheet Masks for helping to bring awareness to the benefits of a good quality facial mask. I say good quality, becasue there are a lots of brands out there getting on the facial mask band wagon and not all ingredients are healthy ingredients for you and your skin. As with any trend, buyer beware!
As I was preparing to write this blog, I immediately thought of my personal favorite facial treatment masks. However, in doing a bit more research across the brands I adore I realized there may be too many to put into this one blog post. So, this is part one of a three part series. How did I come up with three parts you ask…easy! In this blog I am going to share my top picks for a “cream” mask. These are non sheet and non hardening masks. In the second blog we will talk about the sheet mask trend and in my third blog of the series we will talk about the peel off mask. I am so excited!
Without further adieu, let’s get right into my favorite spa quality facial masks of 2018. The list is in no particular order.
Savor Beauty, Manuka Honey Mask. This is one of my go to masks for detoxification and healing. There are just certains times where your skin needs to be purified and healed at the same time, this mask does the trick. I apply it to my entire face, except my cheeks as I am very sensetive, place a warm darmp face cloth over the mask and relax in the tub for about 15-20 minutes. (tub option) The result is glowing, soft, hydrated and purified skin.
Naturopathica, Moss Blemish Treatment Mask. I am someone who suffers from hormonal breakouts on my chin. This mask, if used in time, prevents these breakouts all together! I have even been known to leave it on my chin overnight. This mask is also a good spot treatment if you do have a breakout. The mossy scent is not my favorite but this is a higly effective treatment mask and results are my top priority.
ilike Organic Skincare, Ultra Sensitive System Exfoliating Mask. I have sensitive skin so this is my regular use mask. I use this mask twice a week applied to my entire face and let the steam of my bath help the mask get to work. This mask exfoliates, softens and calms the skin. As a regular mask for sentetive skin I feel this mask offers everything I need to maintain healthy skin.
Shankara Naturals, Moisturizing Mask. I especially love this mask in the winter. I’ll be honest…it has an “earthy” scent which does not bother me one bit, I love the hint of cinnamon! Another honey based mask. I use this mask during the frigid temperatures of the winter when I feel like a need soothing and moisturizing. I am not sure if it is my imaginiation but I am convinced this mask plumps my skin just a bit so I looker fresh and younger.
Clarins, Skin Smoothing Eye Mask . I did not want to forget about the problematic eye area. This treatment eye mask is eveything you need for dark circles, puffiness and tired eyes. I leave it on overnight, 3 times a week, in the morning I follow my regular skincare routine and always use an eyecream. Keep in mind this is a treatment product not an eye cream.
Honorable mention. GLAMGLOW, YOUTHMUD. I am a GLAMGLOW fan. I really love their masks. I really did not want to love them so much when I first tried the brand several years ago BUT I DO. I use all of the masks, especially when I travel. For this review, I have selected the YOUTHMUD as my favorite. (it comes in a GLAM To Go size too) This really is a “facial in a jar” and can be one of the few things I throw into my travel bag along with cleanser and moisturizer. Imagine gettting to your destination, throwing on a mask, taking a warm bath and Voilà your skin looks and feels liek a million bucks.
Thanks for letting me share my personal faves! Next up, I will talk about the Sheet Mask Trend. Look for the next blog on Wednesday January 24th! Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or would like me to review your brand.
