The Magic of 2019
If you follow my blog, you already know that I enjoy writing my year-end blog right before Christmas, as we are returning from our pre-holiday family vacation. This year we opted to not go away to a warm inviting place. Instead of the pre-holiday trip, we decided to donate the money. This decision came as we thought about the many people that need more than we do. It seems everywhere you turn, it is easy to see hurt, suffering and heartache. Together, we decided to make a small difference in our world with what would have been our “Christmas Holiday Fund.”
Gosh, the holidays came and went so quickly. Here I sit in a few quiet moments by the tree, reflecting on 2019. I was not inspired on my pre-holiday trip to reflect on the year but instead through the eyes of my grandaughter…yet again.
The pitter-patter of little feet have turned into full out sprints and that little giggle…well, it is still there! I hope she can hold on to that giggle forever. As I watch her grow, I am given the greatest gift of all – to see life through her eyes with all of its magic and beauty.
In the spirit of this magic and wonder, let me tell you how I lived, rather than worked, through 2019.
2019 was a really amazing year. Not without its challenges, of course. But tonight, for this blog, I am going to save the challenges and just focus on the magic.
Let me tell you about my team, without whom I would be lost. Without whom, there would be no magic. In 2019, as I traveled quite frequently to Washington DC, we enjoyed many face to face meetings. Our DC HQ meetings helped us stay connected and on point.
I am really lucky to be in the company of greatness every single day. I am blessed with a tribe of individuals that work selflessly and tirelessly to make the world a better place. I am grateful for the honesty, for the real moments and for the limitless amounts of patience during my endless strategy sessions.
In case you are not aware, I am a visionary. I am a big picture, big idea person. I need the tribe of people that I surround myself with to keep me grounded, or else I might just fly away. You get the very best of me because I get the very best of them.
This year, we made big changes and added several people to our support team. In 2020, we are adding a few more. This means more people that are reaching out and making personal connections to our clients and friends. It means bigger and better events so that you can make even more personal connections and be inspired by each other to share more of your own authentic self.
In 2019, we hosted three amazing SpaHive events. Each was different from the last. They just seem to get better and better. I think it is the community we are building. The attendees and vendor partners, not to mention our generous speakers and tireless support team. These are the people that make the magic happen; I am just a connector.
Let me talk about the amazing speakers! Did you hear me talk about my dear friend Danielle Knerr at our Appreciation Event in January when we gave out the first Annual Spa Leadership Award? How about a word from our most valued sponsors at SpaHive Essex or THAT power panel who brought several in the room to tears. I’m not crying, you’re crying. AND at SpaHive Norwich did you meet Gretta Monahan, the little engine that could?!
We certainly cannot forget our dear friend and SpaHive host with the most, Barry Eichner. Will you see him at our next huge event in October? Maybe… 😉
I was blessed with another year of American Airlines A status, thanks to the many trips to Washington, DC. Gold status at the Hilton, you too can dream big 😉 I got a new library card, for the Library of Congress. I biked 18 miles to Mount Vernon and back. I thoroughly enjoyed my time in DC this year and look forward to another year of learning and exploring in and around our nation’s capital.
I have been blessed with the most amazing spa clients. Eager to learn and ready to make the world a better place inspires me every single day. (Unless I want to strangle you, luckily that is just a fleeting second.) Seriously, I meet so many giving/selfless people. People who put their trust in me and even more so the people that recommend me to their friends, family and clients – thank you. There is no better compliment than a referral.
I started out 2019 determined to appreciate every day and not let the year get ahead of me. I was really good at that until about May. The next thing I know, it is Christmas. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy my Fridays with my girl and got in several office days at the beach. But somehow, I could not slow down. I am determined to try again in 2020. I will share my secrets, if I succeed.
The highlight of every year is my family. I want to always be grateful and take a moment out of every day to express that gratitude. I am not always successful but I know this much, family is everything and I could not do a fraction of what I do without mine. Have you had the pleasure of meeting Bronx? He is my four-legged road warrior. He has shown me, just like Layla, that the joy is in the little things. Like a morning walk at Fort Foster. Without him, I may have stayed stuck in my head.
I got healthier this year. Last year you may remember my Grave Disease Diagnosis. I am in full remission and have steadily been losing weight. The holidays are tough, as I drink my tea and enjoy another piece of Harbor Candy chocolate…back on track tomorrow. Funny thing. Tomorrow is a new day if we are lucky enough. What will you do with it? I am not going to dwell on that piece of chocolate or two
Every year I set a word of intention. Instead of resolutions, I have chosen to put my word out into the universe. I am getting better at meditating you know. I am open to what may present itself and the funny thing is…the universe does always provide.
Thinking back on my past words:
2017 – Fearless. I found that if I stopped being afraid of what could happen and just took action, I saw the ripples.
2018 – Worthy. When I acknowledged that I was worthy of all good things I became open to receive.
2019 – Flourish. When I allowed myself to flourish I enjoyed what bloomed.
In 2020, I have selected the word READY. I have selected this word because I am READY to always be my authentic self, to try and impact our world through care, empathy, and inspiration, to always let myself feel joy.
I am READY to be limitless.
I have become more and more about self-discovery. I am a soul searcher. Heck, before each event I tend to make my MaryAnn crazy with the soul searching sessions. Between that and strategy…I am surprised she hasn’t started to silence my calls. 2019 was a year of being honest with myself. A year of asking for help so that I can do me a little more authentically. A year of trying new things but staying true to my path and vision. “Stay in your lane” MaryAnn always says.
I am READY for 2020. Are you? I am ready to step into that new year and new decade with you! Reach out anytime. I am here for you. Together we can achieve great things.
Until Next Time!
