As I do each year, I take the opportunity on my pre-holiday vacation to reflect on the year that is almost behind me. I reflect on the highs and lows. I think about all of the things I did well and right but also on the areas where I may improve upon. 2017 was a whirlwind, I am not sure if that’s because I launched the SpaHive Mastermind events which took up so much time to make them everything I envisioned for our industry or if it is simply because as I get older time just seems to go faster…somehow it gets harder to keep up with time.
Life seems to have changed in 2017, the joy and heartbreak helps to make me the person I am today. Loving. Strong. Grateful. Determined.
Our new grand daughters first year was truly a personal highlight. Her first birthday just came in the blink of an eye and seeing the world through her fresh eyes every single day was an unexpected wonder. I am so grateful to be her #globetrottingglamma and to experience a pure joy that only a Glam-ma can experience.
SpaHive Mastermind events in Providence, Cleveland and Sturbridge were the real professional highlight of 2017. The creation of the SpaHive has truly been a labor of love for me and as with any new endeavor…not without challenges. I am so passionate about building an industry that is united in being open, collaborative and supportive of each other as we continue to blaze the wellness path for our world. The SpaHive was born through the belief that we are stronger together and together we can change the world. This belief keeps me going when things get tough, I hope this SpaHive vision inspires you as well!
Another professional highlight was conducting mastermind events across the country at several industry conferences. Oh, I met so many wonderful people and am so grateful to have been selected as an educator.
The SpaHive community was another dream come true in 2017. Creating a private community where members can share with each other, learn and grow in a trusted environment has been something I strived to create and in 2017 that community became a reality. As our membership grows, so does our benefits. New exciting benefits are going to be announced first quarter 2018. (hint, hint…think friends and family discounts)
Travel was fruitful, the summer was glorious and my new office in downtown Portsmouth, NH has helped me feel like part of a downtown community.
2017 changed my life in many ways. I turned 46 which is much closer to 50, lost one of my dearest friends to cancer which left me heartbroken and much more aware of mortality and I guided my beloved 12 year old Hurricane Katrina rescue Biloxi over the Rainbow Bridge.
As I look back each year I am always aware of how the good and bad has helped teach me the valuable lessons I needed to learn, 2017 was no exception.
My lessons of 2017 made me think of one of my favorite quotes:
“In the end, only three things matter: how much you loved, how gently you lived and how gracefully you let go of things not meant for you.” Buddha
In this very small gesture, I dedicate my 2017 year end blog to my dear friend Danielle Knerr who lost her battle with cancer this year. Danielle was the Spa Director at The Spa at Norwich Inn where we met 20 years ago. Danielle may have been weakened by cancer but she certainly did not lose in the battle of life. She left behind three fine children, her lifelong companion, many dear family members, friends and loyal staff. She left with us, with me, a legacy of strength, love, compassion and integrity. I honor her.
“many people will walk in and out of your life, but only true friends will leave footprints in your heart.”
Wishing you a Happy New Year! xo Julie
